THE ABS-CBN LAST STAND IS LIKENED TO THE BATTLE OF THE LITTLE BIGHORN

On the issue of Gabby Lopez’s dual citizenship, some Congressmen and lawyers of Abs-Cbn in a purloined argument posit that the law does not say that only Filipino citizens can own and manage mass media companies. The said argument is merely trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip. Article 16, Sec. 11, number 1, of the Constitution, provides:

Section 11.
1. The ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to citizens of the Philippines, or to corporations, cooperatives or associations, wholly-owned and managed by such citizens.

The above provision is crystal clear and needs no further elucidation or clarification.

Thus, The law had a ring of desperation and defeat to the Abs-Cbn. Now they’re likened to a frog in boiling water that their situation gradually becoming worse, without those involved realizing the peril affecting them until it's too late. Their situation has taken the wind out of their sails, so to speak, and by their inveigling, they must now limp to shore as best they can.
